Miracle Garden Mural Contest

The Miracle Garden Mural Contest

An invitation to individuals and groups to create engaging public art

Columbus, Ohio: The Miracle Garden is pleased to announce a competition to design and paint murals at the Parcels to Places garden sites. The contest is open to individuals, groups and businesses. Winners will be awarded a $100 gift card and be provided with all materials to complete the project.

Parcels to Places is a pilot project which will showcase creative ideas and strategies for transforming Columbus’ vacant land into an asset that contributes to the community.  According to Leigh Anne Ward, Director of The Miracle Garden, “Entrants will create family-friendly, public art that will create beauty and spur conversation as an example of how vacant lots can be transformed from empty and unproductive lots into active and vibrant places.”

We invite individuals, teams, corporations or other entities to submit a mural proposal for either or both sites to transform these publicly held lots into a community asset.  There is no limit to the number of proposals an individual may submit.

UPDATE: The contest entry date has been extended. All entries must be submitted by: May 15, 2017.  Semi Finalists will be selected by May 30, 2017 with the final winners being announced by June 15, 2017.

Submissions will be accepted online, via email, in person, or by mail.

Giving Back to the Community

Community service days help keep Columbus Beautiful by cleaning up litter and creating green spaces like the gardens at Fern and Joyce.

On one community service day in early February, with the help of 18 participants, we moved 14 yds of comtil, 7 yards to improve the soil at each garden site and then picked up trash from Agler down Joyce to the Alley, up the alley between  Joyce and Fern, along Alger between Joyce and Fern, and up Fern to the garden and in the vacant lot across from the garden behind the carry out.  We picked up 11 bags and a cardboard box full of trash, broken concrete and asphalt, scrap lumber and a sign.

Saturday’s work day was a huge success!

Good Morning Everyone!
Saturday’s [Nov. 12th] work day was a huge success!  We extended the pollinator habitat down the alley behind the Westerville Rd garden, filled in bare spots around the property line and continued to develop the Fern Ave parcel.  With 27 volunteers we moved soil, rough cut mulch and Comtil and planted over 400 herbs, shrubs and perennials!  A special thanks to August and Sara Boothe for making baked shells stuffed with mixed greens we grew at the Aberdeen garden and cheese filling and topped with Alfredo sauce, they were wonderful! I just wanted to thank you all for your part in helping us make this possible! We appreciate all your support!

Thanks again,

Leigh Anne
